Malcolm Pate considers the ways that natural systems and cutting-edge technology intersect one another. By applying custom software to computer generated imagery, Pate references the tradition of landscape painting and both human and animal behaviour, creating projected images that invoke the collision of nature and culture throughout 620 to 550.
Reflecting further on the intersection of nature and culture, Jeff Wall’s iconic lightbox work Steve’s Farm, Steveston is set on the outskirts of Vancouver and references the history of landscape painting while depicting the liminal space where suburban development encroaches onto farmland.
