artists Lisa Hirmer and Andrew Maize experiment with kites and smoke bombs in a winter landscape

February 9, 10:00 am -12:00 pm and 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm, University College Hill

Come outside and watch this playful collaboration between artists Andrew Maize and Lisa Hirmer as they build on their collective research on turbulence as a way of thinking about the contemporary environmental conditions of life on this planet.  Bringing together kites, wind catchers, and smoke bombs, the artists will conduct experiments documenting transitory and ephemeral moments with(in) local wind and weather conditions.

The artists welcome helpers to assist with the experiment. If you would like to join in, please meet Andrew and Lisa in the lobby of McIntosh Gallery 10 minutes before the start of each session.

February 10, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm, McIntosh Gallery

Using documentation from the previous day’s outdoor experiments, the artists will work in the Gallery to create an extended photo-collage. Participants are welcome to help Maize and Hirmer with this final stage in their collaboration.
